After last weeks unlucky defeat at Lurcher FC, the Bridge Tavern were hoping to get their season going with the first home game of the season agaisn't local rivals AB Waste. AB Waste are situated just opposite my work so rivalry on the Old Mill Lane Industrial Estate has been pretty tense.

Early rumours that the opposition would just park a skip in front of the goal were laid to rest when the team sheets were handed in to the ref - a local lookalike for the legend Buddy Holly - and it was confirmed that a Mr A Biffa would be in goal for our opponents much to Mancs dissappointment who was hoping that this would assist in him acheiving that prized goal.
Captain Danny won the toss after he correctly chose paper over stone and the Bridge elected to shoot downwards in the first half. The game began in familiar fashion for the Bridge when after 5 minutes Manc was placed through by Gav only to miss after his effort was tipped wide by the keeper. The resulting corner was cleared away from danger.
AB soon broke through with some crisp passing from midfield 2 minutes later and lormor got his toe end to the ball for a resulting corner to AB. Quiche then dealt with the corner with a header off the line. Quiche was then involved with a crunching tackle with the opposing forward with both players showing each other that they have the best looking studs. Both players were fine and got on with the game.
The Bridge continued to press forward without really excelling and only creating a few half chances. AB hoofed the ball upfield and lormor came out to chase the ball down and rather than just clear it, elected to show the crowd what he had learned for 3 years at Juggling club in school by playing keepy uppy and then cleared the ball into the opposing half. 2 minutes later Lormor was the subject of controversy when No.10 for AB broke through on goal after a through ball from midfield and Lormor raced out to win the ball and after the striker had just beat Lormor to it, with the goal at his mercy, Lormor then wrestled the striker to the ground, did a drop kick on him, then finished the move off with a peoples elbow for effect. One, Two, ooh the Ref blew, before Lormor reached his 3 count, for a Free Kick. Rumour has it this was in the area, but I won't mention that. Chants of, off, off, off, off were heard from the 3 strong support from AB but the ref stuck to his guns and showed only a Yellow Card, after noticing both Quiche and James weren't too far behind to deny him a clear goal scoring opportunity,
The first goal of the match for Bridge soon followed on 26 minutes when Gallagher was put thro one on one by Kirk, but his tame effort was easily saved by the keeper. Gallagher battled well to win the ball back off the defender and laid the ball on to Gav just on the edge of the area who struck a sweet left footed strike behond the keeper into the corner of the skip, sorry net.
33 mintues on the clock finally seen the first offside of the game for Bridge, this came as a surprise to the home support as normally we would have had about 33 by now.
1 minute later a ball over the top was played by James into the feet of Gallagher who with no player around him just fell over. It appeared that the Washington Sniper had just rolled into town but the ref still blew up after the Judges seemed impressed with his effort and scored a 9, 9 and a 10 respectively. Gav took the free kick from 25 yards out which just skimmed the bar and went out for a goal kick.
On 38 minutes Danny picked the ball up from Pitch 5, beat a few players with some silky skills as he calls it (in other words the ball bobbled on the pitch) reached the right hand side of the area and curled a superb effort around the defender and into the keepers right hand corner to put the Bridge Tavern 2-0 up. Manager Clarkson would have been delighted with the celebrations of some of the players. Clarkson took the players on a team bonding exercise day last week after the defeat at Lurcher to build morale.

2 minutes later the Bridge had an excellent chance to go 3-0 up when Manc was placed thro by Gav, with Gallagher to his left and only 1 defender in pursuit, Manc seen the goal staring at him, only for his effort to be well saved by the keeper. Gallagher was furious that he hadn't recieved a pass and a chance to mark his debut and was coincidencly substituted at half time.
Half Time 2-0 Bridge Tavern - Now over to Pirates notes
The Bridge made 1 change, Tony Gibney replaced Gallagher, and Bread was told to also warm up. Which he responded well by skipping up and down the touchline with an imaginery skipping rope.
Ab kicked off the 2nd half with just 1 change. Garlic recieved a pass just inside Bridge's half but looked more like he was picking Daisy's and missed the ball. Quiche then cleared the ball only for the flag to be raised and Manc caught inches offside.
49 minutes were on the clock when Manc turned well on the area played the ball back to Mellors who ****** down the line to Gav and was fouled just on the edge of AB's area. Quiche & James picked two daisy's up playing she loves me she loves me not, to which the winner would then be entiltled to go up for the resulting free kick. Quiche won, and from Gavs cross powered a header into the corner of the goal to put the Bridge in prime postion and 3 goals to the good up.
Bread then replaced the hard working Scott Walker, who had actually made the game this week after a quiet Saturday night out at Ollerton Bingo Hall.
The bridge continued to up the pressure and Manc picked the ball up deep inside the oppostion half turned sharpely but from 30 yards out fired his effort into No.30's garden behind the goal.
On 63 minutes AB Waste started to pressure the Bridge defence and after good work from the midfield played a ball thro to No.10 - Mr Hales - who's lob over lormor bounced agonisingly wide for the away side. Bread was shouted at from all angles for leaving the player onside, to which he blamed Ed for not raising his flag up.
68 minutes Lormor made a fine save when it looked like the lob was just about to beat him only for him to tip the ball just over. The resulting corner was cleared comfortably.
Gee replaced Manc on 70 minutes. The game became wide open with chances for both sides, Danny had a volley then just missed the target and AB continued to up the pressure and on 65 minutes got their just desserts with a ball over the top through to No.10 who lobbed the on rushing Lormor to pull 1 back and give them hope. 3-1. 2 minutes later it got better for AB when again the Bridge defence were caught out, mainly Bread playing the striker onside and Lormor was beaten at his near post with a mis hit shot. 3-2 and game on.
AB again looked dangerous going forward - where was they in the first half - But the bridge on 78 minutes broke through Gav picked the ball up and hit a thunderbolt past the keeper to put the Bridge back in control and settle any nerves to make it 4-2
AB were affected by the killer goal and seemed to let their heads drop down a little and the Bridge seized this and upped into 5th gear
82 Minutes Tony was put through by Gav but his control let him down and was promptly told to go and buy a touch from JJB.
85 Minutes and the Bridge were 5-2 up Garlic - fresh from his daisy picking - did well on the right wing, playing a excellent ball into the area into the feet of substitute Gee who turned and hit a shot which took a slight deflection - well it deflected it about 10 yards goalwards - and into the keepers left hand corner.
2 minutes later it was 6-2 when a corner from Gav was headed by James - who won the she loves me game this time - powered in a firm header which was cleared off the line only for the rebound to fall for Tony who prods the ball into the empty net.
The Bridge they played out the remaining few minutes playing some lovely one touch football and again Danny, playing a captains role picked the ball up 30 yards out and unleashed an unstoppable screamer - well it wasn't if the keeper had moved - to put the icing on the Cake and 7-2 to the Bridge. The 3 strong crowd from Ab then voiced there unhappiness at the performace with crys off "What a load of rubbish" Well odd but in some form it rings true.
Ab weren't a bad side and it was an excellent result and performance from the Bridge Tavern and reverse the scoreline of last weeks drubbing, and improve the goal difference to 0. Everyone was outstanding and all worked well as a team and at times played some lovely football from back to front. Well done to all who played.
