"We are certainly not trying to throw Alex through the door," boss Billy Dearden confirmed to the Mansfield CHAD Website.
"Towards the end of the season he was playing better than he has for a long time and really come out of himself and been a leader.
"We were relying on him in the back four.
"So far no one has been on the phone to me about him which is good news for us.
"With holidays coming up it would be nice to get something sorted in the next couple of weeks.
"Alex has come through our junior ranks and done well. Now he deserves to be rewarded.
"We are not trying to keep him on the cheap. He is being offered good money to stay here.
"It is an incentive to the rest of the young playes here too. If they carry on doing well then hopefuly one or one other contracts may be ripped up and they will be offered better money. But they have to prove themselves first."
