After missing virtually the whole of last season following an unfortunate clash with ex-stags keeper Kevin Pilkington in the local derby with Notts County at field mill last August, which resulted in a broken leg, Chris Beardlsey has now been given a chance to prove his fitness for boss Peter Shirtliff.
Shirtliff has now offered the striker a new one year deal, which is now on the table ready to sign.
With the players reporting back for training this week, this is expected to be signed soon.
Bearsley is deighted to be given a chance to prove himself, speaking with the Nottingham Evening Post, he said " The gaffer sat me down a couple of times during the season and was pretty positive about things."
"He said that while he was still at the club that I was the type of player he wanted to have around and that's nice to hear.
"But you never know in football and things can change day by day, so it was a relief to get the offer. What I have to do now is to concentrate on proving what I can do."
"It is only a one-year deal and I'm aware that I have something to prove.
"Shirty has told me that, if I score the goals, there will be an extension. It is down to me and I can score goals at this level."
