Speaking to the Newcastle Evening Cronicle, Rundle said "When we went in at half-time and heard the boos, we knew we had a chance. We knew they would have the crowd on their backs in the second half, and that it could be to our advantage.
"It would have been nice had my shot early in the second half gone in, but Shay Given made a good save. Unfortunately that's football, and we had to keep plugging away."
"As soon as the ball dropped for Alan Shearer, there was only one place he was going to put it, but overall I thought we gave a good account of ourselves."
"Players like me like the space, and I knew from watching the Premier League on TV that I'd get more time on the ball. The manager's mentality is not to defend - he always goes for goals.
"We all knew this could be the kind of game that we might not play again, so we just went out and enjoyed it.
"We were disappointed we didn't hang on, conceding so late was a bit of a blow to us. But we can still take heart from the performance.
"It was a great day out. The manager had said before the game not to come off the field with any regrets, because these chances don't come round too often.
"The Mansfield fans don't get too many opportunities to go to places like Newcastle, and they went out to enjoy it from start to finish."
