"I am very proud I have been given the armband and it has made me very determined to do well for the side and set a good example," Buxton told the Nottingham Evening Post on Monday.
"Now I have got the job I don't want to lose it. I have had a good start with the new gaffer and he seems to fancy me as a player, which gives you confidence.
"I think I'm playing quite well now and I just want to keep that going for the rest of the season."
We knew if we kept it tight (at Chester) then we would get some chances, it's just a pity we couldn't stick any of the others away.
"It was a great ball in from Hamy and that meant all I had to do was get something on it and steer it in."
On Barry Conlon being sent off, Buxton went on "Baz is a big lad and the physical side of things and getting up and winning headers is what his game is all about.
"There are going to be times where there is a stray elbow, or he barges into someone and treads on their toes.
"Sometimes things are going to go his way and other times they are not.
"We didn't need him to be out for three games but if you change the way he plays then he is not going to be as effective for us."
