Dream over for Stags
Despite the disapointment of two Easter defeats ending their outside Play Off dreams, Stags boss Peter Shirtliff paid tribute to his battling youngsters ahead of Saturday's visit of title-chasing Carlisle United (3pm)
"The team showed great character to get us into a position where we had the chance to make the play-offs" he said
"But you can't start the season like we did in the first 12 games and expect to get anywhere"
"It was there, though. It was a real possibility abd, with a little bit of luck, we might have got there. But it just wasn't to be."
"Now i hope we can pick ourselves up again on Saturday against Carlisle. We shouldn't be too down about it."
"Our recent form before the weekend has been promotion form, not mid-table and we are looking forward to Saturday."
