Stags boss Billy Dearden announced to the Mansfield CHAD, late on Thursday that Barry Conlon is set to sign from Darlington. Dearden told the CHAD "He is coming to down to Field Mill tomorrow for talks. He has not signed anything yet, but we are very hopeful.
"Nothing is definite, we have been talking to him for a while and those talks will continue on Friday.
"If we are able to sign him, it will be until the end of the season - and if he signs tomorrow hopefully he will play on Saturday."
Darlington boss Dave Penny was more forthcoming when he told the official Darlington website "They are just going to take his contract over. "He came to the club on a free and it hasn't really happened for him. Sometimes they say you should never go back.
"We just felt it was best for him to move on and get his career going elsewhere. It frees some wages up and allows us to bring someone else in."
