Stags boss Billy Dearden is expressing concern over Danny Reet's fitness levels. With top scorer Richie Barker now well out of the picture at Field Mill, Reet would appear to have lost his chance to fill Barker's boots, with the arrival of both Barry Conlon and Marton Gritton.
Speaking to the Nottingham Evening Post over the weekend, Dearden spoke of his disapointment over Reet "He's all right, but he can't lose weight.
"He loses it in training, but seems to put it on again when he goes to and from Sheffield.
"If I was in his shoes, I'd think, 'everyone is having a go at me, I'll do something about it.'
"It's up to him. He trains hard and works hard here, but once he leaves I don't know what he's doing.
"He's only 19 and it's a case of whether it's going to register."
"He's got a lot of potential, but you can't have potential if you can't run," said Dearden. "It's frustrating because he is a decent kid. I just can't read what's going through his mind.
"He's in a comfort zone because if he'd only got this year left he'd be struggling to get another contract at this rate."
When learning of Billy's concerns, Reet replied "He has been critical, but it's for my benefit, He's got a wealth of experience and if I listen to what he has to say, I can only improve.
"If he sees that I'm doing what he says, hopefully he will give me my chance.
"You have to have a thick skin as a footballer."
