OXFORD MAIL
JIM Smith is confident Oxford United can get the points they need to stave off relegation, writes JON MURRAY.
Saturday's 1-0 win over Peterborough made it four games in a row without defeat for the U's, following the three unbeaten under Darren Patterson, and took them to 45 points.
Bottom club Chester's 2-1 defeat at Wrexham on Sunday leaves them in deep trouble, along with Rushden & Diamonds, who have a crunch game this weekend at home to Torquay.
But Oxford would have been in an even better position had not Barnet, Bury and Macclesfield all managed vital wins.
Barnet, fourth from bottom on 42 points, play their game in hand tonight, when they visit Rochdale.
United have seven games left, with four at home (Chester, Barnet, Northampton and Leyton Orient) and three away (Mansfield, Boston and Wrexham).
Said Smith: "We're seven points clear at the moment and I think we've got enough games here to make sure we stay in this division.
"Rushden and Chester both lost, but we had to beat Peterborough because the other teams at the bottom are starting to win."
