Mansfield boss Peter Shirtliff has confirmed the season is over for defensive duo Jon-Olav Hjelde and Gareth Jelleyman.

But the Stags chief is optimistic central defender Alex John-Baptiste can regain fitness in time for the weekend trip to meet Bury at Gigg Lane.

Left-back Jelleyman's campaign has been prematurely ended by a knee injury while Hjelde was forced out of the weekend's 1-1 home draw with Carlisle after sustaining a hamstring injury.

But John-Baptiste could recover from a hip injury sustained in the same game in time for the Shakers clash.

Said Shirtliff: "Hjelde and Jelleyman are both finished for the season but John-Baptiste's hip problem has settled down a bit and he could be ready for the Bury game.

"I have options though."
