Shrewbury manager Gary Peters said "Mansfield are much improved from last year. This, as i've said before, is a big season for us and it has taken us 18 months to get to this stage".
"We now feel we've got a team that's able to challenge. There is optimism, and so there should be as we're much improved."
Stags boss Peter Shirtlif said "I was pleased with a lot of what i saw. I feel we've got the fitness and organisational levels right."
"Shrewsbury have brought a number of players in and look as if they could be a strong side this season."
"I would still like to strengthen my team in certain areas, but i am in no desperate rush."
