After being former Republic of Ireland U21 Team mates, Dawson knows what the Stags new striker could be capable of.
"He's big, strong and has quick feet and although I haven't seen him play a game, I saw over the course of a week's training he is a good player," Dawson told the Nottingham Evening Post on Monday.
"I know he was at the back of a very good queue at Huddersfield and what he needs more than anything is games.
"He's not played a lot in the last couple of years and hopefully he can score the goals to give us that cutting edge."
