Teenage strike sensation Peter Bore was shocked to spare Grimsby Town's blushes again last night.

The 18-year-old livewire wingman headed the levelling goal after 73 minutes at Blundell Park against Mansfield on his full debut. But the Grimsby lad did not believe his effort would stand.

As he crept around the far post to thunder the ball onto the underside of the bar, it bounced out of the goalmouth and back into play.

The linesman flagged for a goal and the Pontoon erupted.

And for the second home game in succession, Bore did not know where to put himself.

"It just happened to fall on me. It could have been anybody," he said.

"But I am just trying to take my chances.

"I didn't think it was in at first. But the linesman told me afterwards that it definitely went in and span back out."

The youngster sprang to life after the turnaround when boss Graham Rodger's charges reacted to Matty Hamshaw's 51st-minute strike.

Bore said: "I seemed to get on the ball more, kept the ball better in that spell that I had.

"I got the ball and got round the left-back a few times.

"That's what the manager and assistant manager said to me to do - keep the ball and get past the men out wide, keep going at them.

"We started to build up after the goal, we got a bit of confidence up. It was a bit more like it.

"We did have a few chances as well."

A whirlwind introduction to life in the League Two fast lane saw Bore sign a three-year deal with the Mariners on Thursday.

And the youth team product is still acclimatising to senior status.

"It has been a great week for me, the last two to three weeks in fact," he said.

"Everything seems to be going right for me.

"As long as I keep working hard, hopefully I can keep it going and keep learning.

"It's the team and the players that are really helping me out.

"They are organising me - I am still getting used to it all."

Bore's last contribution to the night's events was his goal - he was substituted soon after, complaining of cramp.

But he is unconcerned ahead of Tuesday night's home Carling Cup tie with Crewe Alexandra.

Bore said: "I just cramped up as soon as I jumped up for the goal. I couldn't really move.

"It's no problem at all. Now I've got to get rested and ready for Tuesday.

"I tired a little towards the end, but I'm getting used to the tempo."
