Dan Westwell ejection
Mansfield Town FC can confirm the events leading up to freelance photographer Dan Westwell being ejected from the game versus Walsall on Saturday 20 March 2007 as:
During the game Safety Stewards received complaints from Supporters in the Lower West Stand that Mr Westwell had his laptop computer held in such a way they could clearly see the contents of the screen which was displaying a message they found offensive.
After radioing the control room a Supervisor was sent to speak to the photographer who was asked to cease taking photographs and leave the premises.
Mr Westwell refused to leave quietly and police were in attendance to assist with the ejection from the ground if they were required.
Whilst leaving the ground Mr Westwell was seen by the police to make a hand gesture (contravening Section 5 of the public order act) towards Mansfield Town FC Chief Executive Keith Haslam in the directors box, leaving the Police no other option than to arrest Mr Westwell for the public order offence before releasing him on unconditional bail to appear in court on Friday.
