Daniel King, who was acting for the defence in Hodge's arrest, told the Nottingham Evening Post "On Saturday he made his League debut. It was for Mansfield Town against Wycombe Wanderers which Mansfield won 3-2.
"It was announced that Hodge had won man of the match in his first league game.
"His parents had come to watch him play and he gave the two bottles of wine he was awarded to his mother.
"What should have been a day of great pride then turned into a day of great shame."
"It had been a day of achievement and perhaps because of the adrenaline he made a massive mistake.
"He thought of the casino in Blackpool where he had been once or twice and decided to go there."
Hodge was given 150 community hours work, and banned from driving for 3 years, after being twice over the drink drive limit.
