Speaking to the assembled media after the match, Peters said "I am delighted with the attitude of the players.
"It was a superb draw. But we shouldn't have had to play for 48 minutes with 10 men.
"Michael Symes was stupid. If you get the hump with someone then knock them down. But don't get sent off for handbags, which it was - a silly push.
"I have no complaints with the referee. It was the right decision.
"Michael has not only cost us the chance of winning, but he also forced me to reorganise at half time and that meant two players did not play in the second half.
"Mansfield were the better team to start with, sharper on the ball. But we held on and scored against the run of play. From then on we were always in the game."
