Speaking on the Official Mansfield Town website today, Shirtliff said "I have more or less made offers to the players that I would like to stay at the club so hopefully by the end of this week we will know who will accept the offers and who won't."
"This is a new experience for me telling players that I want them to stay or that they no longer fit in with my plans. I have experienced a little bit though as an assistant manager but the talks with the chairman regarding what to offer people and contracts I can give out is new to me."
One of the players almost certain to be offered a new deal is Simon Brown, on that subject Shirtliff said "Simon is not out of contract as some people believe, he still has a year to run but we want him to sign for a further period which would mean him signing a two year deal. I think that we can do something about this week."
