Speaking to Radio Nottingham after the game, Shirtliff said "It's one of those, we've probably been a bit unfortunate in the last 4 or 5 home games, we haven't taken 3 points in every game really. It's quite reflective of what's been happening, we just couldn't kill them off"
"I thought it took a little while obviously, they (Macclesfield) weren't that ambitious in getting men forward, so it was a little compact in midfield. On the back of last weeks performance, it was understandable we were a bit hesitant. After 20 minutes we settled down, we started to get the ball in wide areas and cause them problems. Our quality was lacking just a little in the final third, we didn't create clear cut openings, Danny Reet had a half chance from a cross, but not much else apart from that. 2nd Half I thought we played very well.
"it was a good finish from Adam (Rundle), and a good diagonal pass from Kyle Jacobs"
"I just said to them, that we couldn't kill them off, and we need to take responsibilities at corners"
"For the 2nd half in particular, I thought we were excellent, our passing was a lot better, if we'd have just had a little more composure, and got round the back of them, instead of shooting from 20-25 yards."
Asked if he was happy the protest was now out of the way and he could get back to concentrating on the football, Shirtliff replied "yes, but the chants are still there though aren't they?"
