Speaking to the Mansfield CHAD in the wake of the damaging defeat to local rivals Lincoln, Shirtliff said "Obviously I am not happy at all that we conceded four goals.
"But it was a strange game in many ways with four penalties awarded.
"It one just one of those days for us. Everything they hit flew into our net in the first half and we didn't take our chances at the other end.
"Their keeper played very well and it was just one of those games.
"Someone just said to me he felt it could have easily finished 7-4 to us and he was probably right.
The match stats back up what Shirtliff is trying to point out, with the Stags having no less than 20 efforts on goal, with 12 of those on target. Lincoln meanwhile managed just 7 efforts on goal, with 6 of those being on target, and of course 4 of them finding the awa into the back of the net. Understandably, the Stags boss was keen to point out where the problems lay "The bottom line is that we have lost and let four goals in and we will start being labelled a soft touch if we are not careful.
"I am not happy about the number of goals we keep conceding and I am going to have to do something about it.
"That possibly could mean bringing in someone and also changing it round with what we've got here."
