Stags boss Peter Shirtliff has made a move in the transfer market, snapping up Allan Russell from Macclesfield Town on a 6 week deal that will last until the transfer window opens in early January.
Speaking to the Official Mansfield Town Website, Russell said"I don't really want to go into to much detail about the reasons why I left Macclesfield except to say it was contractual. But it meant that I was available to go to another club and was glad that Peter (Shirtliff) came in for me.
"Peter has made me aware that the two strikers have been doing well and that places in the team are tight and I have noticed that since he has taken over things have started to look up for the team which is always a good move. When you come to a club and walk in the changing room all the players are happy it makes it easier to join the club.
"I watched the play off final a couple of years ago and I have been speaking to Macca about the club to find out what to expect and he has told me a lot so I was looking forward to coming to Mansfield. By all accounts Macca enjoyed his time here and told me there was a good set of lads."
"I consider myself to be a strong player that likes to get involved and hopefully I can get into the squad and play a lot of football and score goals.
"my initial deal here is until the transfer opens in January and I envisage that I will not be returning to Macclesfield so hope things work out here for me"
Stags boss Peter Shirtliff was delighted to get his man, also speaking to the Official Mansfield Website, Shirtliff said "Allan Russell is on loan until the 1st of January and is not cup tied so can play in the FA Cup. I watched him against Rushden & Diamonds and I thought he did well when he played against us so when I heard he was available. He fits the bill and wanted to come here I didn't hesitate to bring him to Filed Mill.
"He knows about the competition for places and still wanted to come which gives me a few more options up front. Browny (Simon Brown) is injured at the moment but should be training today and Littlejohn has been ill so I think that Allan will be playing some part on Saturday when we go to Shrewsbury
"I think that he will be a beneficial member of the squad and I am delighted that he agreed to come here!"
Russell has scored 24 career goals in 85 appearances, for a full stats of his career to date, head to :
