The often contraversial manager looks set to be named the new Stags boss at a press conference at the One Call Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.
It will be a brave move from owner John Radford and one sure to excite supporters of the league 2 outfit.
Both BBC Nottingham and Sky Sports sources have named Evans as the man to be given the job of liting Mansfield from their current 18th spot in League 2.
Evans was also on the radar of Charlton Athletic who disposed of Russell Slade at the same time Adam Murray was leaving his position as Stags boss.
Evans has previously managed Crawley Town and taken them up to League 1, whilst recently he was with Leeds United in the Championship.
He is more widely (no pun intended!) known for his time at Rotherham, turning them from bottom league status to a side now challenging in the Championship.
Strap yourselves in Stags Fans, the rollercoaster is about to set off!
