Torquay manager Leroy Rosenior was left fuming after his side's 3-0 defeat to Mansfield, which left them without a win or even a goal from their opening three games.
Goals from Adam Rundle, Gavin Peers and Simon Brown sunk the Gulls and Rosenior said: "We were absolute rubbish from start to finish, apart from the young lad [Alan Connell] who came on and gave us some mobility in the second half.
"I have some tough decisions to make and some hard work to do. But I want to go home, reflect on it, and then go in on Sunday and sort things out.
"I feel so sorry for our supporters - they were different class to come all this way to watch that. We were an absolute disgrace.
"I feel let down and that's never happened to me before. Even last season when we were losing we showed effort and application which we didn't. But I won't scream and shout or rant and rave. Actions speak louder than words.
"Of course I ask questions of myself too. If I didn't, I wouldn't be the person that I am. If we are back to square one then so be it, but I won't make excuses for that rubbish."
Mansfield's injured player-manager Carlton Palmer changed his favoured 4-3-3 formation for a 4-4-2 and saw it work a treat.
He said: "I thought we'd played some excellent football in the games so far and it was just a case of eradicating the mistakes from set pieces, which has been a fine line for us.
"I am delighted for the fans, who were magnificent. That is the best football they have seen here for a long time.
"In the end we could have had more goals than that. The lads have been a bit disappointed we didn't get more than a point from the first two games.
"But we have stayed positive and worked hard. When you are conceding from set pieces it is down to bad defending and not bad luck.
"They are a great set of lads who really want to do well and the fans just need to stay patient with them as they are young boys learning the game. But I am sure if they do, they will give them something to cheer about this season."
Mansfield 3 v 0 Torquay
Mansfield grabbed their first win of the new season with a comfortable 3-0 victory against Torquay.
Carlton Palmer's side had picked up just a point from their first two games but made it third time lucky against the Gulls.
Adam Rundle and Gavin Peers got the hosts on their way in the first half before a Simon Brown strike late on put the gloss on the win.
The Stags were in control from the off against a Torquay side who are still yet to score this season.
Matthew Hockley did have the first chance of the game for the visitors after five minutes, letting fly from 25 yards with a curling right-footed effort that Kevin Pressman was more than equal to.
However, Rundle opened the scoring after 15 minutes following good work by Matthew Tipton.
The Stags striker skipped past one challenge and sent a ball across the face of goal - leaving Rundle the simple task of slotting home.
Peers then doubled the advantage just before half-time, heading home after a goalmouth scramble.
Liam Coleman and Kevin Hill tested Pressman again after 65 minutes, but the veteran keeper was equal to their efforts.
But with nine minutes to play, substitute Brown was released by Stephen Dawson and his exquisite lob beat Andy Marriott to clinch a well-deserved victory for the Stags.
