Danish striker Bo Henriksen started the season in top form, hitting both goals as Kidderminster defeated Mansfield 2-1 at Aggborough.
Harriers went ahead in the 15th minute when Kenny Coleman despatched a 40-yard crossfield pass for Henriksen to run on to and lift the ball over advancing keeper Kevin Pilkington from the edge of the box.
But the home side then needed goalkeeper Stuart Brock to keep them in the game with a string of fine saves.
Twice Brock denied Colin Larkin before producing a spectacular save to prevent Liam Lawrence from equalising nine minutes before the break.
At the start of the second half Craig Hinton almost doubled the lead with a 20-yard strike that flew just wide of the post.
But the Stags were soon deservedly level, when Wayne Corden curled a 25-yard free kick over the wall and into the top corner of Brock's goal.
At that stage the visitors looked likely to go on and clinch victory but in the 74th minute Tom Curtis handled a goalbound shot from Coleman and the referee pointed to the spot.
Up stepped Henriksen to stroke the ball past Pilkington and restore Harriers' lead.
With time running out the Stags pushed on in search of an equaliser but Brock again denied them, holding on to Craig Disley's header on the line.
Harriers held on to their advantage until the final whistle to claim victory, with Mansfield going home believing they were worth at least a point.
