Striker Clyde Wijnhard blasted four of Oldham's six goals past Mansfield to continue his remarkable comeback from a horror car smash.
Wijnhard was lucky to survive the accident, which he suffered while at Huddersfield and he now has pins and screws holding his arm together. But, after well over a year out of football, he has fired six goals in six games for new club Oldham.
But it is a different story for the Stags, who have huge problems as their injury hit side seemed to have few answers to life in Division Two. They have now leaked 28 goals so far this season.
The procession began after ten minutes as Josh Low crossed from the right and Wijnhard charged in at the back post to bundle home with his chest.
But Mansfield battled back when Wayne Corden hit a superb free-kick into the top corner from 20 yards to level matters.
It was all downhill from there for the visitors, who fell behind again after 26 minutes, when Wijnhard's header was blocked on the line by the hand of Liam Lawrence and the striker stroked in the resulting spot-kick.
His hat-trick came on 36 minutes as he slotted calmly past the helpless goalkeeper after being picked out by Oldham captain Matty Appleby. And the hero of the hour headed his fourth after 70 minutes following good work down the left by David Eyres and Carlo Corazzin.
Corazzin then got one himself ten minutes from time when he headed in Eyres free-kick and substitute Wayne Andrews made it six from the spot after he was bundled over in the box by Damien Delaney.
But Mansfield manager Stuart Watkiss is defying any calls for his head, insisting: "You don't have to be Einstein to realise that things aren't going well but there's no way I will throw in the towel.
"I always knew it would be a difficult season but the players must stand up and be counted.
"If there's someone out there who can do a better job then it's up to the chairman to make that decision. I will speak to him during the week because he isn't going to be happy and we will see where we go from there."
